Here's the short version. You write things. So do a lot of other real businesses. We read what everybody's writing and find the spots where linking out to another site would genuinely help the reader, not the spots where two categories happen to match. You give a link because it fits, and you earn tokens for giving it. Those tokens come off your balance automatically the day a link comes back to you.
Categories don't pick your matches. A citation is chosen by what a passage says, not by which folder it lives in.
Subscribers never contact each other. There is no messaging and no forum, and the other site stays anonymous until a link is live. Every suggestion and every check runs through the software.

We crawl your site and check it before you join. A real business, one clear subject, clean outbound links. About half of applicants don't get in, so this is worth doing right the first time.
Paste something you're already writing: a title and a summary, or the whole thing.
You get 3 to 5 suggestions, each showing the exact passage it would support and a proposed anchor. None of them right? Decline them all, no harm done.
Add the link, publish, paste us the URL. We fetch the page ourselves and check it. If something's off, you get the specific reason and a chance to fix it.
A link that passes our checks earns tokens. Citing a smaller site pays more than citing an equal one.
Links matched to your own pages arrive on their own, and tokens come off automatically. Keep publishing and links keep arriving. Stop for long enough and receiving pauses until you give again.
"Bring a draft" above is the most common path, but it isn't the only one. Once you're in, the network keeps looking for links on your behalf, in four different shapes.
Where you're located matters too, but only for Local links, the last of the four below: a plumber and an electrician two miles apart, mentioning each other because that's just how a real neighborhood works.

We read what you already published and find a spot where a link would make an old post stronger.
One of your posts needs a source that nobody has written yet. Another subscriber writes that missing piece, you commit upfront to linking to it, and keeping that commitment pays a token bonus.
A real business near you, in a different trade, gets a branded mention. Local relevance is real relevance.
